We transform waste and scraps into resources, fostering new life in the form of new matter and energy. Providing communities with clean, renewable energy generated by sun, water and wind is one of the Group's core objectives.
We provide the infrastructure and services that underpin everyday life, while promoting decarbonisation and protecting the environment and the territories.

Furthermore, when it comes to decarbonisation, we are leading the way with the construction of new renewable energy plants, the signing of PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) for energy purchase and sale, and investments in electricity grids to support the electrification of consumption.
Our actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change concern the increase of electricity production from renewable sources and distribution of electricity and heat.

Our Sustainability Plan sets out specific objectives that contribute to climate change mitigation, to the expansion of renewables and to energy efficiency.

Thanks to our use of high-performing technologies and pollutant abatement systems, we achieve our goal of meeting authorisation requirements and reduce emissions as much as possible, even to levels well below the authorised limits.
Atmospheric emissions, which mainly originate from thermoelectric power plants and waste and biomass utilisation plants, are contained at the lowest possible levels thanks to combustion technologies and Pollution reduction systems.
We constantly monitor the environmental impact of our activities, paying particular attention to atmospheric emissions and water discharges. This allows us to identify areas for improvement and reduce our ecological footprint progressively.

We have set out objectives in the Sustainability Plan relating to the district heating service that will help to mitigate urban pollution.
For years, we have been taking action to manage them in the best possible way, bearing in mind their strategic importance for our activities and the well-being of ecosystems.
We are committed to taking action to reduce water consumption during the abstraction and distribution processes.

By which we commit to protect all species, especially those at risk of extinction, and to preserve the health of ecosystems potentially affected by the Group’s activities and the ones beyond its territorial boundaries, taking a broader perspective of environmental protection.
In 2024, we achieved several significant milestones in biodiversity protection. A total of 41 sites were identified as biodiversity-sensitive areas, and monitoring of all the Group’s plants was carried out to assess potential environmental interference. Furthermore, 137 species found in these sensitive areas are listed on the IUCN Red List.
Looking ahead, we have set ambitious targets for 2035, including the development of a Biodiversity Action Plan that provides for at least one initiative per year by each Business Unit to protect environmental heritage.
In addition, we will continue monitoring all plants—including those newly acquired during the reporting year—for potential interference with biodiversity, including protected areas, in order to maintain full coverage of sites and activities, especially in view of the company’s expanding scope.
As a national leader in the collection, treatment and recovery of municipal waste, we continue to promote the costruction of new plants, as well as the improvement of existing ones. This will generate value from separate waste collection, which is nowadays a primary source of raw materials rather than secondary.
At our plants, we treat waste for material and energy recovery, as well as for the disposal of residual fractions that cannot be valorised further.

We have set out a series of targets to improve the waste recovery and treatment process, encourage separate waste collection and implement policies to reduce waste production.
