Bergamo, 13 February 2019 – Filling up with energy is now possible thanks to the activation of the electric vehicle charging network at crucial points in the city.
There are 11 columns now in operation, 3 of which have Bergamo Wi-Fi coverage. Soon, the network will be fully operational with 32 columns, 8 with Bergamo Wi-Fi coverage. Identifying their locations in the city is very simple: just download the E-moving App (free for iOS and Android), click on Search for charging points and access the map where the active and free refuelling points can be identified, distinguished by colour: red for Fast Charge, blue for Quick Charge. At the Fast Charge columns, all it takes is to insert one of the cables already present on the column in the vehicle's charging socket; at the Quick Charge columns, the E-moving card must be used, displaying it to the reader on the side of the column.
“In 2018,” said the Mayor of Bergamo, Giorgio Gori, “Bergamo reached 5th place among the most dynamic cities of our country in the IcityRate classification: the report by ForumPA covers various parameters, including mobility, research and innovation, for which we are in 6th place, a result that is improving year by year, placing our city, within Lombardy territory, behind only Milan. Today we are adding the creation of an electric vehicle charging network to the important decisions already taken on sustainable mobility: an important element that we are certain will make a positive contribution to the increasingly smart future of our city.”
In order to make the system immediately usable, the Municipality of Bergamo carried out the home delivery of E-moving cards to all owners of electric vehicles in the Municipality’s Mobility Service database (166 in all, 54 living in the city). In addition, it is also being distributed at the Municipality’s Ecology and Environment Service (Piazza Matteotti 3), at the A2A outlets in Via Suardi and, for tourists with electric vehicles, at the Bergamo Upper Town Infopoint (no. 30), Bergamo Lower Town (no. 40) and the Orio al Serio Airport (no. 10).
“The entry of Bergamo in the E-moving circuit," said the Director for the Environment, Leyla Ciagà, “today becomes an operational reality with the inauguration of this strategic infrastructure for the development of mobility that does not pollute or produce noise. Powered with 100% energy from renewable sources, certified by the brand Energia A2A Rinnovabile 100%®, the columns provide reserved stalls with free parking where it will be possible to charge all types of electric vehicles without sustaining any cost, starting from today and for the first year. ”
“For the Municipality of Bergamo,” says the Director of Mobility, Stefano Zenoni, “2018 was the year of the electricity turning point with 12 electric buses and the inauguration of Line C, the call for finance through non-refundable loans for the acquisition of commercial electric vehicles for deliveries in the city’s Restricted Traffic Zones, the retention of subsidised parking for electric and hybrid vehicles and the stipulation of an agreement with the municipalities of Isola Bergamasca for the reciprocal acknowledgement of parking coupons.”
“With today’s inauguration,” continued Director Zenoni, “we can say that we have bridged the gap with the most advanced realities of the territory close to us and confirm, including for 2019, our commitment towards zero-emission mobility. ”
Bergamo became part of the E-moving circuit thanks to the approval of the Municipality Council in June 2018 of the “Protocol of understanding for the implementation and subsequent management of a charging network for electric vehicles” with A2A Energy Solutions, which involves the installation in the city of the columns and the management of the charging service for 8 years.
A2A’s Chief Executive Office, Valerio Camerano, emphasised: “Electric mobility is one of the fundamental elements of the smart cities of the future and, consequently, the quality of life. For this reason, our E-moving charging infrastructure network is in continuous development and expansion, starting from our own key territories, such as Bergamo, which is an increasingly green city: through district heating, LED public lighting, electric mobility, smart cities and innovative services, A2A aims to generate increasing social, environmental and economic value that lasts over time.”
For several years, the A2A Group has been active in the promotion and development of sustainable mobility initiatives. Since 2010, A2A has developed the charging network with the most types of sockets for public and private charging systems, installing Quick type charging stations (innovative columns with double charging point in alternating current up to 22kW), Fast (multistandard columns for charging up to 50 kW in direct current and 22 kW in alternating current) and Digital Islands (made up of columns for charging 4 quad bikes each) in urban areas.
The 32 columns in Bergamo are in addition to those already installed in Milan, Brescia and Valtellina (Tirano, Sondrio, Morbegno). In the coming weeks, Cremona and Rovato will also join the E-moving circuit.
With the E-moving network, A2A is one of the leading players in the development of charging systems in Italy: with the activation of the charging HUB of Unareti in Milan last year (for charging 50 EVs of its operators: https://goo.gl/GomdHp) and now with the Bergamo network, it is preparing to introduce new types of charging infrastructure on the basis of the experience gained over these 8 years. A2A’s infrastructure system is marked by ease of use through RFID cards and APPs and is remotely managed through digital platforms, ensuring easy access to the service and continuous support for the users.
