Brescia, 13 October 2025 – A2A’s Chief Executive Officer, Renato Mazzoncini, together with several of the Group’s top managers, met the Italian and international financial community today at the Outdoor Investor Day 2025, held in Brescia. The day – titled “Powering Tomorrow: Investing in the Future Grid” – offered an in-depth look at the role of networks in the ecological transition, with visits to emblematic sites of A2A Group’s technological and industrial transformation:
- The Unareti Control Room, inside the Brescia headquarters in Via Lamarmora, is the digital heart of the electricity distribution networks and the water system in the Brescia area. Thanks to supervisory and remote-control systems integrated with widespread sensor technology, it enables real-time monitoring of thousands of points and rapid action in the event of faults or anomalies. It is an advanced management model, based on cutting-edge technologies, able to provide sophisticated insights to optimise critical distribution processes, enhancing the safety and resilience of urban infrastructure. The centre is staffed 24/7 by operators who coordinate field activities.
- The Technical Academy, the new training hub in Via Grazzine, Brescia, dedicated to developing the Group’s technical capabilities and nurturing young talent. It is a place for experiential learning that combines classroom teaching, laboratories and on-site simulations, supporting the energy and digital transition of networks and services. The facility can train more than 1,200 Group employees per year.
- The district heating plant. In 1972 Brescia became the first Italian city to equip itself with a district heating system. Today the network extends for almost 700 kilometres and serves 70% of the city’s buildings, both residential and tertiary. In 2024, 83% of heat demand was met from non-fossil sources: the heat required to supply the network is produced mainly by the waste-to-energy plant, and recovered from the waste heat of two steelworks (Ori Martin and Alfa Acciai) and, since last June, also from a data centre. Thermal storage is also strategic: large tanks store hot water at night for use during the morning demand peaks.
- The Qarnot Data Centre, housed within the Lamarmora Plant, is a concrete example of synergy between energy efficiency and innovation. The heat produced by the liquid-cooled servers is recovered to feed the city’s district heating network, reducing consumption and emissions. The project is one of the first applications of heat recovery from data centres and fully embodies A2A’s circular-economy approach: at full capacity it will cover the thermal energy needs of 1,350 flats, contributing to the city’s decarbonisation. A2A is ideally positioned to be a reference partner for the data centres that will be built in Italy in the coming years, leveraging its infrastructure and expertise. In addition to recovering waste heat from data-processing operations, the Group can provide cooling via the district cooling network, grid connection to the electricity distribution network, and continuity of energy supply thanks to its diversified fleet of combined-cycle gas turbine power stations and renewable plants.
The event offered the financial community a direct opportunity to discuss the Group’s industrial and technological progress, confirming A2A’s role as a Life Company committed to generating sustainable value for the area and for stakeholders.
The documentation relating to the event will be available on the company’s website today.
