Transforming the country’s energy system to meet new electricity demand

For decarbonisation

This is our energy transition

We are transforming the way we produce and distribute energy to respond to the growing demand for electrification in the country and to decarbonise the consumption of households, businesses and territories.

A new scenario

A new energy revolution is necessary

The electrification of consumption is already underway, driven by the climate crisis and an unstable geopolitical context. Transport, residential heating and industrial processes are shifting towards electricity, while the growth of digital infrastructure in our country—such as data centres—further increases demand. For this reason, our energy transition responds to two challenges: producing more clean energy and ensuring it is delivered where it is needed.

To support the increase in energy demand and the electrification of consumption, we will continue to invest in “future-fit” infrastructure, strengthening grids, generation and activities linked to the circular economy.

The A2A plan

Transforming tomorrow’s energy

We are driving the transition with an evolving strategic plan, which we regularly update to optimise renewable energy production, distribution networks and electric mobility.

To produce more clean energy

By 2035, we aim to reach +3 GW of additional renewable capacity (wind and solar): this means significantly expanding our solar and wind farms, adding new sources of clean energy across the country.

5.6GW

By 2035, we will have renewable energy plants in Italy with a total installed capacity of 5.6 GW

63%

By 2035, 63% of the total energy we produce will come from renewable sources

To deliver energy where it is needed

With an investment of €4.9 billion and 111 new primary substations planned by 2035, we are working to make electricity grids more modern, powerful and capable of supporting the growth in electricity demand.

To make mobility more sustainable

We are working to make every journey more sustainable in a context where, by 2035, 20% of vehicles in Italy will be electric and the transport sector will require 40 TWh of energy. For this reason, we will deploy a network of 16,000 charging points across the country.

For quality of life

Transforming Italy’s energy system

For us at A2A, the goal is to contribute not only to transforming how Italy produces and consumes energy, but also to improving the quality of life of millions of people.

Every megawatt produced from renewable sources, every strengthened grid and every recovered resource means greater stability, less dependence on fossil fuels and a more sustainable future.

Because continuing to transform our energy means transforming Italy’s energy system.
