Biography

Born in 1967, an electronic engineer with over 30 years of experience in the energy networks sector, Francesco Gerli currently heads A2A Group’s Smart Infrastructures Business Unit.

Since 2019, he has been Chairman and Managing Director of Unareti S.p.A., the company which manages the distribution of A2A Group electricity in Milan, Rozzano and the Brescia area (the city municipality and other areas of the surrounding Province).

After his first years working as a freelance in the engineering field, his professional career has seen him holding various positions of responsibility at AEM/A2A Gas Networks from 1994, and Unareti from 2016 onwards in operational units dealing with planning and investments.

Since November 2024, he has been a board member of E.DSO, the association of Europe’s leading electrical DSOs, which coordinates legislative and technical promotion activities involving the European Commission and European Parliament.

In 2024 and 2025, he played an active part in two extraordinary operations which saw the A2A Group acquire electrical and e-distribution assets (ENEL Group) in the Milan area (around 800,000 new users and 17,000 km of new networks) and in several municipalities in the Val Trompia area, and also transfer to the Ascopiave Group a significant amount of gas assets of a number of companies.
