Mario Gualtiero Francesco Motta was born in Catania on 4 February 1970.
Teaches Environment Technical Physics at the Polytechnic of Milan - Department of Energy since 2004, focusing on the use of energy in buildings and cities and on the implementation of energy efficiency measures and the use of renewables.

Professional background: main appointments

2004 to present – University lecturer (currently Full Professor of Environmental Technical Physics) at the Polytechnic of Milan -Department of Energy (DENG), Rector’s delegate to Energy Transition.
March 2019 to present – Coordinator of the Polytechnic of Milan Energy Commission and the RELAB ( Renewable Heating and Cooling Lab) research group at the Polytechnic of Milan - Department of Energy (DENG).
November 2021 to April 2023 – Member of the technical secretariat for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) Steering Committee at Palazzo Chigi

December 2020 to present – Member of the “Consultative Group to support the joint IEA-Italy Project: Smarter digital power infrastructure to enhance energy efficiency, resilient systems and energy transitions”.

2004 – Researcher at the Polytechnic of Milan: research work on air conditioning and refrigeration systems, thermally activated refrigeration cycles, district heating and cooling, solar thermal technologies, building physics, decarbonized energy scenarios and LCA analysis.
2002 to 2004 - “Marie Curie Individual Fellowship” at the Fraunhofer “Institute for Solar Energy systems” in Freiburg (Germany)

Education

Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan in 1998.
Master of Science (MSc) in Energy Systems and the Environment from the University of Strathclyde - Glasgow (UK) in 1996.
PhD in Technical Physics from the University of Genoa in 2002.
