Each territory has specific needs, existing infrastructure and different ways of innovating. Supporting their transition means starting from these distinct contexts and building solutions together with communities, enhancing local resources, energy recovery, networks and services.
Businesses, households and local communities have different needs, but share a common requirement: to know that their specific circumstances are understood and taken into account. For businesses, this means reliable energy and support in their decarbonisation journey. For households, it means accessible services and attention to situations of vulnerability. For local areas, it means dialogue, data and shared planning.
Our response to these needs takes the form of an integrated model that combines energy generation, long-term contractual instruments and social inclusion initiatives.
To reduce exposure to price volatility and support the decarbonisation of industrial value chains, we develop solutions that connect new renewable capacity with industrial consumption.
At the same time, we support industrial clients and SMEs with energy efficiency solutions and regulatory compliance, with particular attention to sectors most exposed to energy costs and ESG requirements.
The sustainability of the energy system is also measured by its accessibility.
Through the Fondazione Banco dell’Energia, supported by the Group, we fund local projects aimed at tackling energy poverty, supporting vulnerable households and promoting greater awareness of energy consumption. These initiatives combine direct support with energy education programmes, with a focus on prevention as well as emergency response.
Our infrastructure footprint naturally leads us to adopt a constructive and collaborative approach with the communities in which we operate. Since 2015, we have implemented a structured stakeholder engagement programme in the areas where the Group operates plants or provides services. In 2024, we launched a study to assess its impacts.
Through the Engagement Social Value Index (ESVI), developed in collaboration with SDA Bocconi, we measure the impact of our engagement activities across three dimensions:
The results of the first pilot across seven territories confirm the direction taken towards a Just Transition: more than three-quarters of stakeholders involved in the Forums report increased motivation and confidence in their ability to contribute to the sustainable transition. Over 40% call for more opportunities for dialogue, while 30% express interest in participating in regular training programmes. In this context, listening also means responding.
Communicating the impact we generate in local areas through measurable data is essential to enable open and informed dialogue. For this reason, we publish annual Local Sustainability Reports, accessible tools through which we present the Group’s environmental, social and economic performance at local level.

Our presence in local areas is rooted in the history of the municipal utilities from which the Group originated. Fondazione AEM, Fondazione ASM and Fondazione LGH represent this continuity, strengthening the link between industrial development and local communities.
They operate in areas complementary to the industrial plan:
Through partnerships with schools and universities, scholarships and local projects, they contribute to the dissemination of skills and a culture of sustainability.
Enhances industrial heritage and promotes education and training on energy and environmental issues.
Supports cultural and social initiatives in the Brescia and Bergamo areas, with a focus on reducing inequalities.
Promotes research and innovation in energy transition, the circular economy and smart technologies.
