Sdg 15 - Life on land

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems

Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. We have done and achieved ad great deal in the sphere of action to reduce the consumption and loss of water while improving its quality.

Sustainability Plan

Water

Taking action to decrease the consumption of water in the processes of catchment and distribution reducing water leakage and improving the quality of water returned to the environment.

2023 figures are the baseline against which the 24-35 Plan had been calculated. Starting from 2025, annual performances will be compared to the targets to assess wether the Group is on track of the targets themselves.

Protection of the land, safeguarding of species and biodiversity

Taking part in projects to protect the land and safeguard species by monitoring and defending biodiversity in areas where the Group operates.

Action

  • The Group has adopted a Biodiversity Policy since 2022 that includes promoting specific studies to protect flora, fauna and their ecosystems. The Group has also continued with the “Let's Environment” initiative since 2021, providing information and education on environmental issues, including biodiversity conservation and environmental impact reduction, suggesting specific initiatives.
  • During 2023, analyses continued on the potential interference of A2A Group activities with the system of protected areas belonging to Natura 2000 Network (SCI/SACs and SPAs), nationally derived protected areas (EUAPs), wetlands on the list of international importance and IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area), and areas considered important habitats for the conservation of wild bird populations. The mapping phase showed that out of a total of 392 Group sites and networks analyzed, 168 have potential interference with the protected area system, and considered not only adjacency or overlapping criteria, but also wider areas of possible influence.
  • Projects that began and/or continued in 2023 include: the implementation of a program to protect birdlife in the Alto Garda Bresciano area, an activity that complements Unareti's planned work on power lines, and the installation of a Bee Hotel at A2A Calore e Servizi's Lamarmora power plant in Brescia.
